Fans are missing Rihanna at the Met Gala 2019

Rihanna's fans were left devastated after the singer skipped out on this year’s Met Gala.

The Barbadian singer was nowhere to be seen at the lavish event, which takes place on the first Monday of every May in New York.

While there isn’t any official confirmation of Rihanna’s whereabouts, she was last seen partying in Barbados with the Prime Minister at Buju Banton’s concert on April 28.

Rihanna, the queen of Met Gala outfits, also declared her own pick for “best dressed” this year as she posted a snap of Vogue editor Anna Wintour on her Instagram feed.

Over the years, Rihanna has become known for her Met Gala looks, serving one of her best yet when she co-chaired last year’s ball. She dressed a the Pope in keeping with the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination theme.

But it was 2015 that the Fenty Beauty mogul really stole the show in an iconic yellow dress with one of the longest trains the Gala has ever seen.

The yellow train sparked a flurry of memes with many comparing her to an omelette and a pizza.

In her 2019 absence, Cardi B paid tribute to the star as she rocked up in a crimson gown needing a whole entourage to manage her train.

But it wasn’t enough for fans who claimed Rihanna's absence was "catastrophic".

One wrote: “I’m so sad Rihanna wasn’t at the met gala.”

Another said: “The lack of Rihanna at last nights Met Gala is simply catastrophic.”

“RIHANNA I’M SO SAD YOU DID NOT ATTEND MET GALA THIS YEAR, But it’s okay, you’ve been carrying met gala since forever, you also need some rest #MetGala IS NOT MET GALA IF RIRI ISNT THERE,” tweeted somebody else.

Zendaya, Kim Kardashian and Sophie Turner were all in attendance at this year's bash, with a plethora of stars paying homage to the Camp: Notes on Fashion theme.
