Tinie Tempah has spoken out against the lack of music venue access for disabled people in London, branding new campaign Why Not People? a 'catalyst for change'.

The chart-topping singer, who is currently celebrating his sixth number one, wants to raise awareness of venue inaccessibility ahead of his performance at the launch event at The Troxy this Wednesday.

Speaking exclusively to The Evening Standard, he said: "There have been times where I’ve done shows and there has been a disabled fan there and we’ll have to do a meet and greet or maybe meet before the show because it’s really hard to have that access to really be able to see the show.

"I guess it’s like the workplace, you need to try and accommodate as many people as you can.

He added: "In a workplace there needs to be mandatory access points. I don’t’ see why it should be any different in venues that hold large amounts of people. Hopefully this is the catalyst for change.

"This is definitely going to raise more awareness – fingers crossed."

The 26-year-old, who has a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza this summer, has been celebrating this week after new single Not Letting Go hit the number one spot.

He told us: "It feels so amazing, I’m feeling really overwhelmed. I just feel so thankful to everyone who went out and supported it, to be fair.

"The feeling becomes more and more intense, I can’t explain it really. It’s just a really humbling feeling to be quite honest with you. It makes me want to work harder and push boundaries."

Tempah celebrated by inviting everyone in his life over to his house after he heard the news.

He said: "Everyone just came to my house, all my cousins and friends and everyone who’s worked on the record – it was nice, intimate.

"My mum and dad phone me before anyone else. I get a call from my mum and she was really cute, she’ll pray and stuff like that, and my dad’s really nice."

The star is gearing up for he release of his third studio album, hinting that it'll be released early next year.

"I’m having a great time putting the album together. I'm thinking of putting it out maybe at the start of next year. I’m having fun and trying to just release music off of a feeling, just on how it feels, " he told us.

"I’m at a very interesting place at the moment in my life, there’s lots of talk about and reflect over as well. The direction is different in that sense, a lot more mature. I think about things slightly differently."
