Zayn Malik should have stayed quiet for six weeks after leaving One Direction, says Kevin Jonas

Kevin Jonas has offered Zayn Malik advice following his departure from One Direction, suggesting that he stays under the radar until the ‘dust settles.’

Speaking on a New York radio station, the Jonas Brother admitted that he thought Malik was making a mistake by launching his solo career so quickly as he was just opening himself up to scrutiny.

The 27-year-old told the Z100 Morning Show: “In the mist of that intensity he should go dark for a long time.

“Like, showing up quickly after, you gotta go dark for at least 6 weeks, like underground. You gotta go hard because you gotta let it settle, you have to let the dust clear because anything you do will then be scrutinized."

The US pop star, who’s been in the industry since he was a teenager, claimed that Malik’s palpable excitement about branching out on his own will alienate his fans.

Jonas added: “Because if you come out and you’re like ’Hey look at me I’m super happy everything is great,’ everyone is going to be like what the?!”

Malik waited just a few days after his departure before announcing that he was working on new material with producer, Naughty Boy, causing a furore on Twitter.

Jonas, whose band split up two years ago, went on to talk about the depression he felt following the break up.

He said: “It was around Christmas and we just shut down and I just got really depressing for a while. There's a mourning process.”
