Coldplay singer Chris Martin declared yesterday: 'Fame isn't all it is cracked up to be.'

The musician, married to Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, added that the idea of celebrity was 'nonsense'.

He said great books, music and architecture fell by the wayside because people were attracted by celebrity. 'Everything is subservient to this idea of celebrity,' he said.

'Great things get ignored because they're not famous enough but people can tell you who's dating who.'

Martin, 28, said he tried to 'ignore it as much as possible' and focus on his music and one-year-old daughter, Apple.
