Suspended: Alex Zane shocked listeners to his radio show

Radio DJ Alex Zane has been suspended from his breakfast show after playing a 'joke' song about rape.

Zane, who also presents Channel Four programme Popworld, broadcast a song called Code Of Love that he had created with fellow hosts on his Xfm breakfast show on Wednesday morning.

Soon after, Xfm bosses took him off air.

The 29-year-old has now been replaced by Dave Berry until at least September.

Zane's co-hosts Marc Haynes and Sunta Templeton have also been suspended pending disciplinary action.

A spokesman for the station said: 'The breakfast show broadcast an item that in the view of management was distasteful and likely to cause offence.

'As a result the team has been suspended, pending a formal disciplinary process.

'A full apology was broadcast on air on Thursday. We are sorry for any offence caused.'

The presenter was spotted at the Kerrang! Awards on Thursday night and said: 'I haven't been suspended since school. I can't believe it.'
