Gary Barlow has revealed he would like to pen his own West End musical after being drafted in to help with one of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s stage projects.
The singer was called on last year to help re-write the score for the musical version of Finding Neverland.
Weinstein ordered re-writes and postponed plans to bring it to the West End after it received mixed reviews on its first outing in 2012.
Barlow, who performed a solo show at The O2 last night, said the project had made him think of working on his own musical.
He told the Standard: “The show’s completely different to when I came on board and I’ve loved it.
“When this musical came up I thought, ‘Never done it before, let’s have a go at it’. But I’ve really, really enjoyed it. I don’t think I’ll be happy until I get a musical right and hopefully it’ll be this one.”
He added: “I’m definitely very interested in continuing to do more of them in the future.”
Barlow, 43, is midway through his solo tour and is also working on a new album with Take That.
“Touring’s great,” he said. “You’re in the best shape because you’re on the road each day running around the stage for two hours.
“Then there’s the adrenaline of coming offstage.” Take That began recording their seventh studio album in January, but Barlow refused to confirm if Robbie Williams was on board.
“We’re having a great time and can’t wait to let everyone hear the new material,” he added.
