Gervais: I won't be BBC's £5m bitch

Ricky Gervais yesterday said he turned down a £5million golden handcuffs deal with the BBC.

The Office creator said he could not have lived with himself if he had taken the cash, adding: 'I don't want to be the BBC's bitch.'

Gervais, who is filming a new series, Extras, told heat magazine: 'I think handcuff deals promote laziness and extravagance. I think it's a bad idea for both parties.'

The BBC denied offering Gervais a deal, saying he was being flippant.
