It's even better than winning an Oscar ... film director Mike Nichols gets a hug from Julia Roberts as he is honoured by his Hollywood peers.

The 78-year-old director of The Graduate was presented with the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. Also at the ceremony yesterday were Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, and Cher as well as Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, and Emma Thompson.
