Ghostbusters star and Playboy model Kymberly Herrin dies at 65

Former Playboy Playmate and Ghostbusters actor Kymberly Herrin has died aged 65.

The Santa Barbara News-Press said in an obituary on Tuesday that Herrin died “peacefully” on October 28 in Santa Barbara, California, where she lived until her death.

The obituary described her as a “beautiful woman inside and out”.

Born on October 2, 1957 in Santa Barbara, Herrin first made a name for herself as a model. Her obituary noted that she graced the covers of dozens of magazines and modelled for Ralph Lauren.

Herrin famously featured on the cover of Playboy’s September 1982 issue as well as the following year’s publication.

She also starred in several movies, including the 1984 classic Ghostbusters, in which she appeared as a ghost during a scene with Dan Aykroyd’s character Ray Stantz.

Herrin also appeared as a Playboy Playmate in Beverly Hills Cop II alongside Eddie Murphy in 1987 and starred in ZZ Top’s music video for Legs.

According to Herrin’s obituary, the former model loved to travel and sail, a passion that inspired her to live aboard a 75-foot yacht for “several years”.

Although no cause of death was specified, the piece said: “If you are so moved, please make a donation in Kym’s memory to the American Cancer Society to further the research of the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.”

Herrin is survived by her mother Billie Dodson, her brother Mark Herrin, nieces Theresa Ramirez and Stephanie Ross, nephews Brandon Herrin and Trevor Triegor, along with numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Herrin’s niece, Theresa Ramirez, posted an emotional tribute to her aunt on Facebook. She noted that Herrin was now reunited with her late sisters.

“They are all together now. Aunt Kymberly Herrin. I love you,” Ramirez captioned the photo, in which Herrin could be seen sitting on the beach along with her two sisters.
