Leo's draft dodger girlfriend

Leonardo DiCaprio's new girlfriend has caused an outcry in her native Israel following accusations of draft dodging.

Model Bar Refaeli avoided having to enlist with the Israeli army by secretly getting married a week before she was due to report for duty in September 2004.

Hundreds of letters from outraged Israelis were sent to newspapers when it was revealed she had married a much older man, believed to be a family friend, to escape the mandatory draft.

Furious mothers accused her of being unpatriotic and 'jetting about the world with millionaires and movie stars' while their daughters risked their lives serving their country.

Under the country's laws all Israeli women aged from 18 to 20 must serve in the military unless they are ultra-religious, physically disabled - or married.

A'friend' of the Refaeli family said: 'Everyone knows why she got married. It doesn't take a genius to work it out.'

Refaeli, 20, was first seen publicly with 31-year-old DiCaprio over Christmas. He is said to have fallen for her after splitting from long-time girlfriend, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, in November. They were pictured together enjoying the Scream ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, near the actor's Los Angeles home.

Before hooking up with DiCaprio Refaeli, who is apparently still married, dated a string of millionaires and actors including former Baywatch hunk David Charvet. She also appeared in Sports Illustrated magazine and modelled for lingerie chain Victoria's Secret.

'She is never far from a rich man,' added the friend.

'She is a little rich girl who has grown up wanting for nothing.'
