Lorraine Kelly has admitted that she was “very unhappy" after gaining 1.5 stone (9.5kg) in lockdown.

The presenter of ITV’s morning show Lorraine, 62, who signed up to Weight Watchers to shed some of the pounds she gained in lockdown and after Christmas, said: “After gaining weight in lockdown, I’d become very unhappy with my size.

“Like most of the nation, I had been comfort-eating, not doing as much exercise as normal and my husband has no conception of portion," she added to Woman & Home where she is the December cover star.

Kelly has dropped two dress sizes in recent months, having gone from 11st 10lbs to 10st 3lbs since January, and is back to her “happy and healthy self".

In a previous chat with the Mirror she said about her weight loss: “It’s made life a lot easier. I know I wasn’t alone in putting on weight over the pandemic...

“I’ve certainly got my zest for life back. It’s improved my confidence massively.

“I feel like I can take on anything right now."

The mother of one said she would binge on chocolate and various sweets and was consuming huge amounts by the end of the week, and for breakfast she would have croissants or buns.

On what made her join WeightWatchers, she said: "It was a combination of things. I definitely overindulged over Christmas, as we all do. I was finding a size 14 was getting too tight."

She added that her weight loss has put a spark back into her relationship with her husband, Steve.

"Steve says, ‘I’ve got you back,’ because my energy levels have improved.

“I’m up for doing stuff now whereas before, at the weekend, I would do some housework and then collapse in front of the telly."

The December issue of Woman & Home is on sale on Thursday, October 27.
