Nicole admits to a desperate broodiness

Nicole Kidman is desperate to have a baby with husband Keith Urban, she revealed to long-time friend Russell Crowe in an American TV interview.

The 39-year-old has two adopted children to her previous husband Tom Cruise, but was unable to have a child of her own.

Just before her separation from the Mission Impossible star she suffered a miscarriage, and her comments show that she is still determined to become a natural mother.

Kidman reprimanded Crowe as he quizzed her about pregnancy rumours, telling him: "Stop it. This is really dangerous territory. You are the worst interviewer."

But then she said: "Am I going to have a baby? I hope so."

The pair had agreed to interview each other for a special edition of Oprah Winfrey's chat show, screened last night. The Gladiator star also grilled Kidman about country singer Urban's stint in a Californian rehab clinic. Urban, 39, checked himself in for alcohol addiction only months after he married Kidman last June.

Asked how he was doing, she said: "Very well, we've been through a lot. We had to dig really deep and that's what we're in the process of doing."

She was close to tears as Crowe told her how "courageous" Urban's move was. Kidman warned: "You'll make me cry now so stop it".

She said she loved her new life in Nashville, where she could "be myself".
