Sting spends Police reunion earnings with New Year's cruise down under

Superstar Sting is making the most of his record-breaking, money-making Police reunion tour, by taking the family to Australia for a New Year's cruise.

The singer, real name Gordon Sumner, and his The Police bandmates Andy Summers, 64, and Stewart Copeland, 55, made £66.5million through their 54 gigs in the U.S. and Canada this year - the highest earning tour in North America this year.

With such a boost to Sting's already impressive income, the Message in a Bottle singer has treated his family to a post-Christmas vacation down under.

Tea for two: Sting and Trudie relax in their new surroundings

After spending Christmas in their Wiltshire country estate, Sting and wife Trudie Styler and their their four children Bridget 'Mickey' Michael, 23; Jake, 22; Eliot Paulina, 17; and Giacomo Luke, 12; flew to Sydney earlier today.

The family went straight from the airport to Sydney Harbour, where they boarded the Phoenix yacht, which they have hired for the duration of their trip.

It is expected the family will join thousands of Sydneysiders to watch the annual New Year's Eve firework display over Sydney Harbour Bridge next week.

Ahoy Captain: Sting at the wheel of the luxurious Phoenix yacht

Sting has chosen an impressive vessel to charter for his New Year's Eve break.

At a fee of £16,800 a day, the Phoenix comes with 2 VIP double state rooms, 1 twin and 1 double double room.

Among the amenities is a LCD plasma TV, scuba-diving and jet-skiiing equipment, spa, gymnasium, and top-of-the-range music system.

The 35-metre yacht can reach a top cruising speed of 12 knots.
