Innovative Japanese fast-food outlet Yo! Sushi has come up with a winning formula for families - on Sundays small people under the height of 151cm eat for free. Snow White will save a small fortune...

'Get out of my way' isn't the sort of comment one expects from a waiter. But when it's a self-steering trolley robot, serving everything from Japanese beer and sake to Cokes and smoothies, you can forgive it anything. Yo! Sushi is a paradise for children, catering as much for the adventurous as for fussy eaters. Where else could you try four different puddings, several starters and numerous main courses? In that order? And if you don't like one dish, help yourself to another on the conveyor belt - you pay for the empty plates piled up on your table.

Either sitting at bar stools facing the conveyor belt or at tables (more comfortable, but only two of you have direct access to the dishes) you help yourself to small colour-coded plates of food, that range in price from £1.50-£3.50. There is soy sauce, green wasabi and ginger on each table, as well as still and sparkling water on tap (literally) and, for those who don't like chop sticks, the hinged 'snakers' are easy to use, even for the very young. Children tend to side-step the raw fish in favour of hot dishes like the sweet chicken teriyaki, the crunchy ebi fry (prawns) and chicken katsu (breaded chicken), the various noodle dishes and, perhaps more surprisingly the cold maki and the iso rolls. My children also love the puddings - doriaki (custard pancakes), delicious rich chocolate mousse cake, and citrus or pear tarts. We polished off 26 plates between five of us which, along with water, fizzy drinks and smoothies, came to around £80. But it was worth every pound.

For your nearest Yo! Sushi branch call 020-7841 0700. Sunday is family day, where kids under 151cm eat for free and parents each get one free purple plate. Yo! Sushi County Hall, Belvedere Road, SE1, runs special parties, which cost from £5 per head.
