What drove Captain Cook and Jacques Cousteau to become explorers? What hardships did they have to overcome? What do their achievements mean to us today?

Oceans Of Discovery tells the story of scientific exploration above and beneath the waves. It covers the developments in navigation since the Vikings and early Polynesians, as well as the history of human attempts to chart the oceans and the technological advances that enable scientists to record their discoveries.

In a series of activities and workshops (featuring Aidan Dooley as explorer Tom Crean) children will be able to make their own discoveries about the oceans, design their own deep-sea fish and even examine the replica of Shackleton's boat, the James Caird, that was used in the Channel 4 series.
