Agger frustrated by Hodgson tactics

Defender Daniel Agger is ready to gamble with his Liverpool future after becoming frustrated by new manager Roy Hodgson's approach to the game.

The Denmark international is unhappy at being asked to adapt to a long-ball style and is determined to stick to his footballing principles - even if it costs him his place in Hodgson's plans.

Agger - who has also been used out of position at left-back in the early stages of Hodgson's reign - told Danish TV channel 6'eren: "I'm here to play football and not to unload."

He added: "The manager has a philosophy that we're playing football further up the pitch and then you have to play a different kind of football at the back.

"That's not my style. That's not the type of football player I am. I like to keep the ball on the ground and I'm going to keep doing that. Whether he'll use me or not, time will tell.

"I guess I'll try to change even though I'm not going to be the player that unloads the ball every single time I get it. I'll fight for my chance. I'll get the chance. I know what I represent and I think he also knows that."

Denmark coach Morten Olsen has urged Agger to keep his frustrations under control and remain patient.

"Now Liverpool are in a new phase. I think everyone just needs to get to know each other," he told Sporten.dk.

"Agger is a central defender but he will play where he is needed, I have no doubt.

"It's a good thing he gets annoyed when he doesn't play. It is a normal reaction."
