All Blacks ring the changes

13 April 2012

The All Black selectors have made a host of changes to the starting line-up for the test against Fiji in Wellington on Saturday to give players a last chance to impress before the Tri-nations squad is announced next week.

Eleven of the starting 15 named on Tuesday were either left out or substitutes for the second test victory over Ireland last weekend.

Only skipper Reuben Thorne and Norm Maxwell - playing in his 23rd straight test - have been named in all four matches New Zealand have played so far this season.

Jonah Lomu has won back his left-wing berth at the expense of Caleb Ralph and Christian Cullen comes in at fullback for Leon MacDonald.

Sam Harding, who will become the 700th All Black to play a test, is in to replace Marty Holah, who has a knee injury, while Aaron Mauger will play fly-half in place of Andrew Mehrtens.

The team: 15-Christian Cullen, 14-Doug Howlett, 13-Tana Umaga, 12-Daryl Gibson, 11-Jonah Lomu, 10-Aaron Mauger, 9-Byron Kelleher, 8-Taine Randell, 7-Sam Harding, 6-Reuben Thorne, 5-Norm Maxwell, 4-Simon Maling, 3-Kees Meeuws, 2-Tom Willis, 1-Joe McDonnell.
Substitutes: 16-Mark Hammett, 17-Dave Hewett, 18-Chris Jack, 19-Scott Robertson, 20-Justin Marshall, 21-Andrew Mehrtens, 22-Leon MacDonald.
