Anelka lifts Keegan gloom

David James was not present to see his new Manchester City team-mates end a 14-match run without a win.

But the goalkeeper would have been impressed by their 3-1 win at Leicester, which earned a fourth-round clash with Tottenham.

And Nicolas Anelka, who scored City's second goal, said the result should silence stories of unrest in Kevin Keegan's camp.

Anelka said: "I think this is good for the team, for the manager and for all the people who have stayed behind us through the recent bad times."

Keegan was also quick to dismiss suggestions of a falling-out with Anelka over comments attributed to the Frenchman earlier this week.

"Nicolas is one of the great strikers," Keegan said. "He chases lost causes and that is why we won this game. His pace is his greatest asset.

"Sometimes he looks as though he is moving as quickly as he can, then he seems to go into overdrive. I never got into the gear below that."
