Arnesen: We won't be rushed

Frank Arnesen today admitted that Tottenham won't rush into appointing their new head coach.

The newly-appointed sporting director said it was vital Spurs made the right choice when it came to naming Glenn Hoddle's permanent successor at White Hart Lane.

Arnesen signed a three-year deal with the London club yesterday as David Pleat was axed as director of football.

The Dane said: "I will be directly involved in the selection of the new coach.

"Obviously everyone would like him installed soon but there is no rush. What is important is that the appointment is the right one for the club."

Arnesen added that he was not daunted by the challenge of trying to make the Premiership's first continental-style structure work successfully.

He said: "I have been doing a similar role at PSV for 10 years and I'm not afraid of the challenge.

"I worked with Sir Bobby Robson in a similar structure at PSV. But even when I was a player and then a coach and general manager, I realised you have to work as a team to be successful.

"Such a structure can work in the Premiership. The challenge will be to make it a success."
