Back targets two more wins

Neil Back believes Leeds must win at least two of their remaining four matches if they are to complete another great escape and avoid relegation from the Aviva Premiership.

Back's bottom-placed side beat Exeter 27-22 at Headingley Carnegie to move to within two points of Newcastle, who they face in a crunch showdown at Kingston Park on Saturday. Victory over the Falcons would lift Leeds above their northern rivals and off the foot of the table.

"We'll do what we need to do or we will die trying. I believe we've got to win at least two of the next four games," said head coach Back.

"Bearing in mind we've won three of the last 18, that's a big challenge. But without belief there is nothing. I 100% believe that we can go to Newcastle and win."

Back added: "Nobody can question the mentality or desire of this squad. It wasn't pretty but we battled hard and did what we had to do to win the game.

"It was a simple game-plan that was well executed. We're scoring tries and we're denying the opposition at the other end. In the last four games we've won twice and scored eight tries and conceded very few, so we're in a good place at the moment."

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter admitted Leeds deserved their win and bemoaned his side's error-ridden display.

"We've hit a little bit of a wall in the last couple of weeks and we've just got to work hard to come through it," he said.

"We coughed up too much ball and a win would have mathematically secured our place in the Premiership. We haven't done that and it's disappointing."
