Barcelona are attempting to ban a controversial advert for Beats by Dre headphones which features their player Cesc Fabregas.

The advert, which was run during television coverage of El Clasico on Sunday night, shows Barcelona midfielder Fabregas traveling to a game on the team coach.

Along the way, the coach is bombarded by raucous Real Madridfans with derogatory chants and flares.

It is Barcelona who have taken offence to the advert, however, with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu looking to get the advert taken off the air.

Bartomeu said: “We don’t like the message it sends out, which is why we have asked for it to be withdrawn.”

Beats by Dre UK have responded to the criticism of the advert, saying: “Beats would like to reiterate that the scenes in our new commercial starring Cesc Fabregas are purely fictional.

“The images in the commercial do not reflect real images.

“The views and thoughts of FC Barcelona or Real Madrid have not been involved or consulted in the making of this advert.”
