Bartlett's hot streak gives him hope

14 April 2012

Shaun Bartlett believes his pre-season scoring spree will earn him a place in Charlton's starting line-up for their Premiership opener against Manchester City.

The South African striker scored his fourth goal in two games in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Plymouth and hopes to continue the good run against Cardiff tonight.

Bartlett said: "There's competition for places amongst the strikers but if I keep doing my best I'm sure I'll be in the frame." Manager Alan Curbishley is expected to stick with the team that drew at Home Park.

Jason Euell, meanwhile, has urged Curbishley to sign former Crystal Palace midfielder Julian Gray on a permanent basis.

Euell said: "I feel we are a bit short in terms of width so hopefully a deal will be sorted out soon for Julian."
