Beckham winning his fitness battle

13 April 2012

David Beckham returned to training today raising hopes he will be fit for Manchester United's Champions League game against Nantes in France on Wednesday.

The midfielder injured his ankle during England's 1-1 draw with Holland in Amsterdam last week.

United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez is set to play having recovered from a back problem but there is a doubt over midfielder Paul Scholes, who has a thigh injury.

Meanwhile, a strike by bus and tram drivers in Nantes will cause havoc for fans attending the game. Around 3,300 United supporters are expected to travel to France.

Nantes are bottom of their Champions League group and lost 1-0 to Lille in a French League game yesterday.
