Benitez to make more changes

12 April 2012

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is again prepared to shake up his forward line this weekend against Tottenham despite the impressive performances of Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy.

Kuyt grabbed his first goal for the club in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Newcastle while Bellamy also troubled the defence of his former club.

Yet Benitez, who has attracted attention for his failure to pick a consistent side, could again change things with England forward Peter Crouch and Robbie Fowler waiting in the wings.

Benitez said: "It is important if you have two players like this. The understanding between them is good and they are creating chances.

"So maybe you have to give them more opportunities, but in this case Robbie, Crouch and Luis (Garcia), playing as a second striker, are good options."

Benitez has not picked an unchanged side for 92 matches and he is determined to keep his players as fresh as possible for the challenges ahead.

Liverpool host Galatasaray in the Champions League next Wednesday before travelling to Bolton the following Saturday.

Benitez added: "You cannot play 60-65 games with the same players. You cannot play two games a week with the same players because the tempo of football now is higher than before.

"Two days ago I was watching Arsenal v Liverpool from 1998. It was unbelievable the difference in tempo.

"They played well but it was very different. Now the players fly. You need to think quicker, run quicker, do everything quicker."
