Betsen given six-week ban

14 April 2012

France flanker Serge Betsen was today suspended for six weeks for kicking England scrum-half Matt Dawson in the head during last Sunday's semifinal.

Judicial officer Brian McLoughlin accepted it was not deliberate but said: "It did represent a reckless act."

The ban, which will run until 29 December, took into account Betsen's previous good record and his letter of apology to Dawson.

He had already been ruled out of tomorrow's third place playoff with New Zealand because of a knee injury.
