Birmingham look for Dunn cure

14 April 2012

Steve Bruce has insisted that Birmingham "will explore every available avenue" to try and find a cure to midfielder David Dunn's recurring hamstring problems.

And the Blues chief is to even call his former Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs to find out what remedy solved his string of hamstring setbacks.

Dunn will miss the opening fortnight of the new Barclays Premiership season after suffering his latest setback in last week's pre-season friendly at Sheffield Wednesday.

Employing the services of German specialist Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt - who worked with Steffi Graf and Jose Maria Olazabal - is only one option being considered.

Bruce said: "We are exploring every avenue available to us. Our medical staff are looking at him and we haven spoken to various other medical people from every sphere.

"We have even talked to the people who worked with Linford Christie. I am trying to speak to Ryan Giggs to see what he has done to get over his hamstring problems.

"He was susceptible to picking up injuries before he got things sorted. That's what we want for David.

"He will recover from this hamstring injury. We have to make sure his recovery is complete and final. He has got something wrong and we have to find out what."

Dunn, signed from Blackburn for then a club record £5.5million last summer, was dogged by the problem during the second half of last season.

The former England Under-21 captain recovered well enough after tearing the hamstring in an FA Cup replay with Sunderland in February but aggravated it at Hillsborough nine days ago.
