British Grand Prix moved next year to avoid Euro 2020 and Wimbledon final clash

The British Grand Prix has avoided a clash with the Wimbledon men’s final and the climax of Euro 2020 at Wembley next year after it was moved back a week to July 19.

The move had been mooted after Lewis Hamilton’s victory at Silverstone this year on July 14 was overshadowed by an SW19 classic between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer - as well as England’s nailbiting Cricket World Cup Final victory over New Zealand at Lord's.

There will be a record 22 races on the Formula One calendar next year, with new races in the Netherlands and Vietnam and Germany dropped from this year’s 21-race schedule.

The season starts in Australia on March 15 and concludes in Abu Dhabi on November 29.

The 2019 F1 season returns from its annual mid-season break this weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps.

Hamilton boasts a 62-point lead over Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas with nine races remaining as he looks to secure a sixth world title.
