Sachin Tendulkar's much-anticipated innings was under way at Lord's after Stuart Broad struck twice to keep England in charge of the second Test.

The 38-year-old, who entered this historic 2,000th Test on an unprecedented 99 international hundreds, joined fellow veteran Rahul Dravid at the crease after Broad dismissed both India openers.

At lunch, the tourists were 102 for two in response to England's 474 for eight declared, with Tendulkar 10no and Dravid 15no.

Gautam Gambhir and Abhinav Mukund started the day quietly, leaving the ball outside off and playing straight to the fuller deliveries.

Mukund had reached 36 when an all-too-rare Broad yorker hit him on the toe in front of the stumps. Amazingly, the seamer did not appeal, apparently believing the ball had hit the bat first.

That error aside, Broad looked much improved from his efforts in the Sri Lanka series, bowling much fuller and finding a touch of swing.

His reward came when he found the gap between Gambhir's bat and pad, clean bowling the left-hander for 15.

That brought 38-year-old Dravid to the crease for a final Lord's appearance, 15 years after making 95 here on debut.

Broad made a second breakthrough with Mukund on 49, the batsman playing on to his off stumps as Broad continued to find the right lengths.

Tendulkar strode out to an ovation from the home fans and eased any nerves by pushing his third ball for two through the covers.
