Broad savours Foxes' final triumph

14 April 2012

Stuart Broad described Leicestershire's four-run victory over Nottinghamshire in the Twenty20 Cup final as "brilliant".

The 20-year-old fast bowler took one for 18 as the Foxes reduced the Outlaws to 173 for eight after Darren Maddy (86) and James Allenby shared a stand of 133 to finish on 177 for two. The victory, which concluded in teeming rain at Trent Bridge, was the Foxes' second Twenty20 triumph.

Broad, strongly tipped to be an England star of the future, told Sky Sports: "It was superb. It was a great atmosphere and I'm so happy to win. By far (the biggest crowd I've played in front of) - it was brilliant."

Broad admitted it had whetted his appetite with great things predicted for the son of former England batsman Chris.

"This is what it's all about - big crowds and big games. I really enjoyed it," he added.

Allenby was one of the Foxes' heroes after taking two of the final wickets to finish with two for 23 as well as his superb innings.

"It's awesome, I've been doing it the last few games. With the wickets we got in the middle we managed to peg them back."

Bowler Ryan Cummins failed to take a wicket

"It's an emphatic victory," Cummins said. "It's an absolutely great day, it's just a shame about the weather."

Wicketkeeper Paul Nixon admitted he had never taken victory for granted, saying: "I was always concerned, they've got big players for big occasion but we held our nerve and stuck to our plans. It's special, we've had a very big week, we've had a death in the family and it's great to give back to people who have helped us on our way."
