Casey splits with caddie

12 April 2012

Paul Casey has followed Colin Montgomerie's recent example and split with his long-time caddie.

Casey and Craig Connolly, whose first week together was his Ryder Cup debut three years ago, agreed to part after the world number 16 finished 10th in last week's gruelling US Open at Oakmont.

"I've been thinking about it for a while. We've probably been getting at each other and it's best to keep your sanity," said Casey, on the eve of the BMW International Open in Munich where Irishman John Mulrooney will carry his bag.

"Both of us were tired at the end of last week, so when Craig said 'What do you think?' I said 'I think we should take a break'. We've had a couple before, so we will see.

"We haven't discussed it any further than this week. Watch this space - but John knows it's just this week for him.

"Craig and I were friends before we were working together, so to save the friendship it was best probably to take away the golf.

"Last time it was good because I had a few weeks using other guys and then we came back and played some great golf."
