Celtic humbled as home run smashed

13 April 2012

Celtic's 77-game unbeaten run in front of their own fans ended when goals from Bryan Prunty and David Zdrilic gave Aberdeen a surprise 2-1 win against the newly-crowned Scottish champions.

It was Celtic's first league defeat of the season and only Aberdeen's ninth win.

Martin O'Neill claimed that, although the unbeaten record meant little compared to winning trophies, it still hurt to see it ended.

The Celtic manager said: "It is obviously very disappointing. I suppose in the cold light of day I will think about the three games we have lost at home in the last four years.

"Two of those came when the league was already won, so from that point of view it is a sort of comfort. But I would have preferred not to have been beaten - it was something to play for."
