Chelsea call for FA investigation

12 April 2012

Chelsea have issued a statement to confirm they will write to the Football Association regarding "a number of issues" from their Premiership game at Reading on Saturday.

The statement read: "Chelsea Football Club will be submitting a letter to the Football Association over the next few days regarding a number of issues that arose from the match at Reading last Saturday.

"We can confirm that questions regarding the two tackles on Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, and the medical procedures to treat the injuries sustained by our players, will be in the submission."

It continued: "We have not prejudged the outcome of this submission and Chelsea FC want to stress that we will be asking the FA to look into these issues.

"But we believe there are serious questions that warrant further investigation by the relevant authority."

Jose Mourinho, at a press conference ahead of the Champions League game against Barcelona, claimed he was unhappy with the treatment received by injured keeper Petr Cech at Reading.

Mourinho said it had taken too long to get Cech into an ambulance and that his route out of the ground forced him to be moved from a stretcher and into a wheelchair to get in a lift.

Mourinho's suggestions that Reading's medical facilities were not up to scratch was met with a swift response from the Berkshire club.

Reading quickly issued a statement which included a timeline of events surrounding Cech's injury, but some of the finer details of this are disputed by Chelsea.

The dispute centres on who called for the ambulance and precisely when. Chelsea claim their doctor Bryan English asked paramedics to make the call at 5.35pm. Reading say Chelsea requested an ambulance at 5.40pm.
