City, Hammers challenge red cards

12 April 2012

West Ham and Manchester City hope to overturn the red cards shown to Paul Konchesky and Joey Barton.

Both clubs have submitted claims for wrongful dismissal to the Football Association, freeing both to play on Boxing Day.

City midfielder Barton was shown a straight red for a wild lunge at Abdoulaye Faye in the 2-0 defeat to Bolton at Eastlands. He will now be available for the match against Sheffield United, like City involved in the fight against relegation.

Hammers defender Konchesky - who can now play against Portsmouth - was also shown a straight red.

He was adjudged to be the last man when he brought down Fulham's Wayne Routledge in the closing stages of the scoreless draw at Craven Cottage.

The clubs are required to provide the necessary submissions for the appeals on Wednesday and the cases will be heard by a disciplinary commission on Thursday.
