Essex v Sussex

Sussex openers Murray Goodwin and Richard Montgomerie took the Essex bowling apart today as they sought to keep the pressure on title rivals Surrey.
The visitors elected to bat at Colchester and Montgomerie helped himself to 97 before he was bowled by Antonio Palladino. Goodwin was unbeaten on 137, although Sussex did lose Phil Cottey (23) and skipper Chris Adams (0).
James Middlebrook suffered most, his 10 overs going for 63 runs.

Kent

It was a great day for Martin Saggers who took five wickets as Nottinghamshire were all out for just 177 at Trent Bridge today. He saw off Darren Bicknell and Vikram Atri with both openers having scored only five each. Saggers then claimed three more wickets including the key dismissal of Kevin Pietersen, who made a century before being caught by Michael Carberry. Kent's reply saw Robert Key (7) caught and bowled by Chris Cairns.

Hampshire


Martin Love hit a century to help Durham recover from being 73 for three in their match against Hampshire at Chester-le-Street today.

Australian Love steered the home side clear of danger with a 161-run fourth-wicket partnership with Gary Pratt (66). Earlier, Alan Mullally marked his return to the Hampshire side by dismissing Jonathan Lewis for 11 during an impressive opening spell.
