County cricket round-up

14 April 2012
Sussex

Rain added to Sussex's frustration today as no play was possible before lunch on day two of their potential championship clincher against Lancashire at Old Trafford.
The visitors need just 10 points to guarantee their first ever championship but failed to register a single bowling point as Lancashire reached 225 for two at the close yesterday.
The home side are third in the table and require maximum points in their remaining two fixtures to have a chance of the title.
Only 68 overs were possible yesterday after rain prevented any play until the afternoon and it was Lancashire who took the initiative after making a poor start.
Mal Loye (110) and Stuart Law (65) were the men who revived the innings with an unbroken stand of 157 for the third wicket after Mark Chilton (6) and Iain Sutcliffe (38) were dismissed early on.

John Maunders completed a century for Leicestershire before rain stopped play at Grace Road. The lefthander added 35 to his overnight tally to reach 111 not out.

Despite Middlesex picking up three cheap wickets at Lord's today, Russell Warren went on his merry way for Notts as he reached 123 not out before rain stopped play.

Essex

Alastair Cook and Mark Pettini went for ducks as Essex lost seven wickets before lunch. Only William Jefferson (33) provided some resistance.
