Alistair Cook on the boil as England crush Board XI again

In the groove: Alistair Cook
10 April 2012

Skipper Alastair Cook smashed an unbeaten half century today as England raced to their second win over a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI.

Cook retired on 52 from 51 deliveries - smashing eight fours and a slog-swept six - as England cruised past their 152-run target in a rain-shortened match with more than seven overs to spare.

The opener, standing in for Andrew Strauss, will be pleased with his form along with Matt Prior, who saw Craig Kieswetter handed the wicketkeeper's gloves today but played as a batsman and made an unbeaten 64.

England's only disappointments were the cheap dismissals of Kevin Pietersen (six) and Luke Wright (nine).

Earlier, pacemen Ryan Sidebottom and Tim Bresnan each took two wickets along with Kent off-spinner James Tredwell as the hosts made 151 for eight from 37 overs.

Kieswetter, who starred with a knock of 143 on his full England debut as the tourists crushed the same side by 112 runs on Tuesday, bagged two catches.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, who yesterday became the first batsman to hit a double century in a limited-overs game, was today left out of the team for India's third and final clash with South Africa in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

His 200 not out gave India an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
