Clint McKay steps up as Hilfenhaus waits on fitness

10 April 2012

Australia have called up Clint McKay for the Second Test against Pakistan at Headingley as concerns linger over the fitness of pace bowler Ben Hilfenhaus.

The 27-year-old has made only one Test appearance, recording figures of one for 101 against the West Indies at the WACA last summer.

Hilfenhaus injured his left shoulder diving for the ball on the final day of the First Test at Lord's last week.

Team physio Alex Kountouris has been working with the Tasmanian since Friday's win, and Australian selectors remain hopeful he will have recovered from soreness by Wednesday.

If Hilfenhaus is unable to hold his place, it is anticipated that South Australian paceman Peter George will make his Test debut.

George was a late addition to the squad when fast bowler Ryan Harris was struck down with a knee injury during the fifth one-day international against England.
