Delhi Daredevils have released former England batsman Kevin Pietersen as part of a major overhaul ahead of the new season.

The IPL side played seven matches before recording their first win of the 2013 season and finished the campaign rooted to the bottom of the table.

As part of a 'rebuilding phase' the Daredevils have let a total of 13 players go, with former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor also axed alongside senior Indian pair Dinesh Karthik and Murali Vijay.

"We have got a squad that we believe forms the core. It gives us a large purse to go into the market with," Daredevils chief executive Hemant Dua said.

And Dua suggested they were downsizing the squad with the hope they can introduce players that will strengthen the overall set-up.
