Rob Key hails his Twenty20 attack

10 April 2012

Kent captain Rob Key hailed his bowlers as his side beat Durham by 56 runs to book their place in the Twenty20 Cup semi-finals for the third year in a row.

Having made 149 for seven at Canterbury, the 2007 champions skittled out the visitors with 16 balls to spare.

James Tredwell took three for 18 while Azhar Mahmood and Wayne Parnell both picked up a couple of wickets.

Key said: "We thought 150 would be a good score because it was spinning, if you see guys like Gareth Breese and Ian Blackwell turning the ball, then you know there would be something in it for our guys too. And the likes of James Tredwell and Simn Cook, taking pace off the ball, did superbly for us.

"What I didn't expect was for Ryan McLaren, Wayne Parnell and Azhar Mahmood, the quicker guys, to do as well as they did. It was a magnificent performance by the bowlers."

Sussex are also through to the semi-finals after they bounced back from their defeat in the Friends Provident Trophy Final to beat Warwickshire by 38 runs.

Rory Hamilton-Brown took Twenty20 Cup-best figures of four for 15 at Hove.

Lancashire face Somerset at Old Trafford tonight in the third quarter-final.
