Salman Butt appeals over jail term

10 April 2012

Disgraced Pakistan captain Salman Butt has launched an appeal against his prison sentence for cricket spot-fixing.

Lawyer Yasin Patel confirmed that an appeal has been filed against the two-and-a-half year punishment given at Southwark Crown Court last week.

Fast bowler Mohammad Asif was jailed for a year while teenage fast bowler Mohammad Amir was sent to a young offenders' institution for six months for bowling no-balls at prearranged times during the Fourth Test against England last year in order to fix spot-betting markets.

India claimed a five-wicket win in the First Test against West Indies in New Delhi but Sachin Tendulkar's wait for a 100th international century goes on.

The 38-year-old yesterday became the first man to reach 15,000 Test runs but was trapped lbw for 76 this morning by Devendra Bishoo.
