England lose late wickets

12 April 2012

Andrew Strauss hit only his second half-century in 16 Test innings but England lost late wickets in the fourth npower Test against West Indies.

Opener Strauss cracked a flurry of early boundaries, cutting and pulling himself out of his worst run of scores in three years as an international player.

But England lost four wickets before the close of the third day, finishing 166 runs adrift of West Indies' 287.

Alastair Cook perished to a leg-side strangle, while captain Michael Vaughan and nightwatchman Matthew Hoggard edged into the slips.

Then Kevin Pietersen succumbed when he bottom-edged a pull through to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, handing Fidel Edwards a third success.

Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul made Ian Bell pay for dropping him on nine the previous day by hitting his second unbeaten century in a row during this npower series, and 16th of his Test career.

A dogged last-wicket stand of 58 with Corey Collymore extended Chanderpaul's time at the crease beyond 20 hours in four innings against England this summer.

Ryan Sidebottom was the pick of the England attack, finishing with figures of five for 88.
