England on top after dismissing openers

England made a steady start to the second innings of the third one-day international against Bangladesh as they removed both openers in defence of 284.

Craig Kieswetter scored a maiden international century to underpin that score, before Tim Bresnan and debutant Ajmal Shahzad each took wickets in their opening spell to leave the Tigers 73 for two after 15 overs.

England, who hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, saw Kevin Pietersen's poor run continue when he was once more undone by spin for 22.

Shahzad was handed the new ball and obliged his captain with the wicket of the dangerous Tamim Iqbal in his first over. Tamim blazed 125 in the series opener in Dhaka but fell for a duck this time, slashing to Bresnan at third man.

Imrul Kayes brought him back to earth with exquisite drives for four off the front and back foot but neither he nor Aftab Ahmed looked comfortable against Bresnan's aggressive short-pitched bowling.

A handful of positive strokes upped the Bangladesh pair's confidence and when Bresnan went short again in the eighth over, Imrul hooked bravely for four.

Aftab then took advantage of some width from Shahzad to club a sixth boundary of the innings through cover.

Bresnan continued to bound in and was rewarded with the wicket of Imrul (17), caught by wicketkeeper Matt Prior after thrashing outside off stump.

Shahzad put down a firmly hit return chance to reprieve Aftab on 26.

Luke Wright and Liam Plunkett provided the change bowling as Aftab (34no) and Mushfiqur Rahim (17no) looked to build a formidable stand.
