Ferguson puts duo on the spot

Sir Alex Ferguson will leave it up to Louis Saha and Cristiano Ronaldo to decide who takes Manchester United's next penalty.

Although Saha has converted two penalties so far this term, the Frenchman's last-gasp failure in last week's Champions League defeat at Celtic seemed certain to see the responsibility removed from him. Wayne Rooney might have claimed the job but now Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Ronaldo is in line for the role if Saha does not want to continue.

"I have left it between Louis and Cristiano to decide," said Ferguson. "Sometimes if one is playing better than the other it is sensible for the one who is playing really well to take it, although I told Louis if he needed one for his hat-trick he should take it."
