Fiorentina deny Santana transfer

12 April 2012

Fiorentina have rubbished reports they have accepted an offer from Tottenham for Argentina midfielder Mario Santana.

Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino was quoted in an English tabloid on Friday confirming that the 26-year-old was set to travel to London in the coming days to join the Premier League club.

However, vice president Mario Cognigni has poured cold water on the idea saying: "The news about the possible transfer of Santana is completely false."

He added: "We have created so many good players that it is inevitable we are handed requests about them.

"But in this case there has been false information. I guarantee you that as a club we don't have in mind any talk of transfer.

"Apart from the fact that Corvino doesn't speak English, as far as we know he didn't talk about the transfer of Santana because he works for us and we meet almost every day."
