Paulo Dybala has dealt a transfer blow to Manchester United and Arsenal by claiming he would “swim” to Barcelona if it meant he could sign for the Catalan giants.

The Palermo attacker is certain to leave his club in the summer after falling out with president Maurizio Zamparini, although Palermo will demand close to £30million for him.

Both Arsenal and United are following Dybala’s progress closely but the 21-year-old Argentinian has now dropped a huge hint about where he would like to go.

“I would swim to Barcelona if they came knocking,” Dybala told Radio Belgrano. “I wouldn’t even need to change into my swimming gear. After all, it’s only across the Mediterranean.”

Dybala has established himself as one of the best young players in Serie A this season, scoring 12 goals and helping to create seven more.

He has formed a potent partnership with fellow Argentine Franco Vazquez, and both have been approached by Italy boss Antonio Conte to turn their backs on their home country. Vazquez is set to accept the offer but Dybala is expected to reject it.
