Arsenal have offered £17m to Manchester United to sign Danny Welbeck.

As revealed by Standard Sport earlier, Welbeck is attempting to push through a deadline day move to the Gunners after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford due to the imminent arrival of Radamel Falcao.

Arsenal have sought to secure a deal for the 23 year-old by offering Manchester United £17m.

Arsene Wenger was in Rome today where he is involved with a charity football match but Arsenal have insisted that the manager will still be able to play a key part in any transfer talks should he be required to assist chief executive Ivan Gazidis and negotiator Dick Law.

Welbeck's agent, Jonathan Hope revealed earlier that the striker was keen to secure a permanent deal away from Old Trafford.

He told Talksport: "There have been a few clubs in for Danny and they are looking for loan deals with a view to buying, but Danny doesn't want to go on loan. He wants a straight transfer."
