Joel Campbell, the Costa Rica striker, has joined Villarreal on loan until the end of the season.

The move is part of Gabriel Paulista's permanent £13.5m move to Arsenal from the Spanish club. Campbell confirmed the news on Twitter before adding that he wants to use his time in Spain "in the best way and succeed".

Campbell had expected to play regularly at Arsenal after impressing for Costa Rica at the World Cup in Brazil last year. His country made it to the quarter finals for the first time.

Despite that the 22-year-old has not started a single Premier League game for the Gunners this season.

On his website, he wrote: "Playing at Villarreal for the rest of the season means a lot to me. I'm very happy for this opportunity.

"They have a defined way of playing and it will be a pleasure as they are a great team that is well placed in the table [6th in La Liga]. They have a style of play that will suit me.

"I hope I can settle in as quickly as possible and I am able to prove my worth. I can only say I'll give 200 per cent in an attempt to win over the fans.

"I can do it through hard work and that is my intention."
