Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs has been called up to the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

The 27-year-old will replace Ryan Bertrand, who limped out of Saturday's 2-0 victory over Malta after suffering an injury in the first period.

Bertrand was replaced by Tottenham's Danny Rose in the 19th minute and has returned to Southampton to begin his recovery.

Gibbs has not featured for England since October 2015 and returns to the set-up under Gareth Southgate after missing out on the Euro 2016 squad.

The Gunners man has played just 37 minutes of Premier League football this term.

He will team up with the rest of the squad before jetting out to Ljubljana as Southgate's side look to maintain a perfect start to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
