Arsene Wenger not interested in loan deal for Thierry Henry

No deal: Arsene Wenger claimed there are currently no plans to sign the club's record goalscorer Thierry Henry

Arsene Wenger today insisted Arsenal have not explored the option of re-signing Thierry Henry on a short-term loan deal after the Frenchman returned to train with the Gunners.

Henry, 34, headed back to London Colney this week to maintain his fitness in the Major League Soccer close season after the New York Red Bulls were knocked out in the play-offs by David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy.

He also trained with Arsenal last winter but Wenger claimed there are currently no plans to sign the club's record goalscorer.

"I have not thought about a loan deal at all," said Wenger. "At the moment we have a big squad with 26 players and anyway, that problem cannot be examined before the end of December. His future is in the United States. He is going back there in February. Until then we will just help him to practice and keep fit."

Wenger confirmed Kieran Gibbs will be out for six weeks after undergoing a hernia operation while fellow full-back Carl Jenkinson will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a stress fracture in his back.

With Bacary Sagna also out, Johan Djourou or Laurent Koscielny will have to play out of position at right-back and when asked if he felt he had enough options to cope with the injuries ahead of tomorrow's trip to Norwich, Wenger said: "Frankly, no, we do not have enough cover.

"We have two full-backs out in the same position and you cannot have four or three, because two would never play. I have not made a real decision yet."
