Target: Luis Suarez

Barcelona hope to capitalise on Luis Suarez's ban by signing the Liverpool striker for a cut-price £40m - but will insist on an anti-bite clause in his contract, it was reported in Spain today.

The Spanish giants have targeted the Uruguayan, who has left the World Cup in disgrace and won't be able to play or train until November after biting an opponent.

And according to Marca, the ban has not deterred the Catalan club from pressing ahead with plans to sign the 27 year-old who feel they can now reduce the £70m they initially believed it would take to prise from Merseyside, down to £40m.

Barcelona will also stipulate in his contract that 'there will be sanctions in place should there be any more bites or similar behaviour,' Marca adds.

Liverpool have always held the position that Suarez is not for sale, but should any potential legal challenge fail, his ban could lead to the Reds cutting their losses on a striker who has already served two bans during his spell at Anfield.

Arsenal tried and failed to sign Suarez last summer for £40m plus £1 believing it would trigger a release clause in the striker's contract.
